CAMELLIA OIL

Camellia oil is derived from a special strain of camellia trees, camellia oleifera abel, which is only found in select regions of a few Asian countries. The prized oil has been used for centuries as cooking oil before the western world even became aware of its unique properties and uses. It is high in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and unlike olive oil, it remains stable when exposed to high temperatures, making it the perfect healthy choice for chefs and home cooks. Camellia oil’s light, subtle, citric flavor makes it ideal for salads and as a drizzling oil. It was also used as a beauty aid for centuries to bring luster to dry and aging skin. In the modern world, it has been implemented into all of the top cosmetic lines. It can be directly applied to the skin and is the perfect hair treatment for fragile, dry hair. With Camellia oil being the only organic ingredient, it gently absorbs into the skin without leaving a heavy residue; leaving the skin with a soft dewy touch.

Origin of OUR OIL

ShanCha Extra Virgin Camellia Oil comes from the ancient camellia trees of Xin county in Henan province, along the foothills of the Dabie Mountains. This remote region of central China where the northern and southern climates emerge, is the watershed for two major rivers, the Yangtze and Huai. This region has the perfect micro-climate that provides the camellia trees with an ideal environment to flourish. The trees have been growing wild for over a thousand years. We have over 36,000 acres of old growth forest with regenerating camellia trees to provide us the best camellia oil in the world. Our camellia oil is 6%-10% higher in unsaturated fatty acids than any other camellia oil.

THE SHancha™ difference

Shancha’s designated old growth forest is located in a high altitude region on the windward side of the mountain where there is abundant rainfall accompanied by low temperatures. This climate provides the perfect conditions for camellia trees to thrive and produce the highest quality of oil. Lingrui®, our partner herbal medicine company, has established a longstanding relationship with the farmers practicing fair trade and being part of the local community for over 20 years. The relationship is mutually beneficial as our business helps the local community’s camellia based economy while also keeping unwanted companies that wish to exploit them for their resources. As such, all of the area’s resources are exclusive to Shancha, from which we produce the highest quality camellia oil and provide customers with the peace of mind that they are getting the best.

Our local focus

The Seed of Camellia Flower

Our farmers have been living around the forest for generations. They only use the harvested seed pods from our exclusive forest to make the oil. In 2015 ShanCha and Greendew® Camellia Oil our sister company in China along with their parent company Lingrui® built a cold oil press to allow local farmer to bring all their seeds into oil production and to create oil that is of the absolute highest standards of purity and flavor. The local pressing facility, operated by villagers, is strictly used for making our products. This practice ensures the best quality control and purity of our oil. The locals’ livelihood is dependent on the oil and they therefore care about the forest and the products. From picking seed pods to pressing for oil, everything is done by locals and all the profits go back to the community. Sustainable methods are very important to us and we take care of our farmers and local community. In return, they provide us with the finest oil mother nature has to offer. We believe consumers need to know exactly where their food is coming from and we support our farmers by ensuring they receive a higher competitive price for their crops than they would selling to a consolidator. This makes Camellia oil a profitable cash crop that brings much needed income into the households of a very poor region.

Our Working Hands

ShanCha™ 's camellia seeds are hand picked and sun dried naturally. No machines were ever used on our trees and we will never try to speed up the process by oven drying. Our practice maximizes all the nutrition camellia seeds have to offer.

Physical Extraction

Every drop of ShanCha™ Camellia Oil is extracted by physical squeeze under low temperature, straightly from camellia seed. This environmental-friendly low-tempreture-pressed technique ensures the original nutrition and various kinds of natural active ingredients of camellia seeds are fully retained. The oil can be preserved for a long time without adding any additives. It is a pure natural organic food.

Sterile Bottling

Filling factory is proceeded with 300,000 Degree Air Purification and the whole bottling process does not contact with the outside air, which ensures the highest product quality.

CAMELLIA VS. OTHER OILS

Oil nutrition Comparison

High Unsaturated Fatty Acids Content:

Both monounsaturated (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fats can improve cholesterol levels and lower your risk of heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends the consumption of MUFAs to improve your blood lipid profile. Unsaturated fatty acids of average camellia oil is over 80%. It's higher than any other edible oil. Our camellia oil has been tested to range from 86% and up to 90% in unsaturated fatty acids, which is contributed by the 15-16 months growth period. We patiently allow our seeds to mature to bring the best camellia oil to our customers.

High Linoleic Acid, Linoleic Acid Ratio:

Linolenic acid: linoleic acid ratio of Camellia fruit is 1:4, which is closer to human breast milk than any other edible oil, makes it excellent for women who are pregnant, expecting to  be pregnant and nursing.

High Smoke Point:

Smoke point of Camellia oil is above 485°F, which is substantially higher than olive oil’s smoke point of 405°F. This allows you to cook at a higher temperate without comprising the nutritional benefits of the oil and the food.

High Temperature Resistance – Thermostablity:

When heated to high temperatures. common cooking oils yield peroxide, which is extremely harmful to the human body as it erodes away cells in our body.Camellia oil contains high level of antioxidants, and can be fried continuously for 20 hours at 406°F without degradation or production of trans-fat.

Edible – Direct Use:

Common edible oil (Vegetable Oil, Canola Oil, etc.) cannot be consumed directly without heating whereas camellia oil can. It can be directly used on meat or vegetable salad. Meanwhile it also can be used as salad dressing or drizzle it on your favorite foods like olive oil.
